LAHORE: On Monday, the Lahore High Court (LHC) requested information about presents that had been removed from the Toshakhana since 1947.
Over the request of citizen Munir Ahmed, Justice Asim Hafeez of the LHC demanded information regarding the Toshakhana presents.
The federal government's attorney told the court during the hearing that it is not possible to deliver the requested information.
Nevertheless, disregarding the argument, the court ordered the relevant authorities to report the specifics of gifts obtained from Toshakhana since 1947 by January 16.
Imran Khan, the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), is embroiled in a scandal over the Toshakhana gifts for allegedly engaging in corrupt activities, which the former prime minister denies.
Bushra Bibi, the wife of Khan, is purportedly heard speaking to the former administrator of the former prime minister's Bani Gala home in another audio leak involving the Toshakhana gifts.
According to reports, the former first lady can be overheard asking the former administrator, Inam Khan, to take pictures of the Toshakhana gifts as they enter Bani Gala.
This is the second Toshakhana-related audio that belongs to the former first lady that has come to light. She was allegedly heard chatting to PTI leader Zulfi Bukhari in the first recording about selling the watches given to Khan since "they were of no use to him."
In addition, a trial against former prime minister Imran Khan Imran in connection with the Toshakhana presents is scheduled to start on January 9 in an Islamabad court.
The trial court heard the Toshakhana reference against Khan that the Election Commission had brought on November 22 due to allegations of corrupt behaviour.
Disqualification
The ECP disqualified the former prime minister and determined that the leader of the PTI was no longer a member of the National Assembly in a unanimous decision in the Toshakana reference in October.
According to Article 63(1) of the Constitution, the PTI leader was found to have produced a fraudulent affidavit (p).
According to the ECP order, "The Respondent has become disqualified under Article 63(1)(p) of the Constitution read with Sections 137,167, and 173 of the Elections Act,2017, consequently he ceases to be a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan and his seat has become vacant in accordance with our abovementioned findings, facts available on record, and keeping in view the argument of learned counsel for parties herein."
Khan had made "false statements and erroneous declarations, as a result of which he has also committed the offence of corrupt practises outlined under Sections 167 and 173 of the Elections Act, 2017," according to the ECP's ruling.
It further stated that the offence was criminal in accordance with Section 174 of the Elections Act of 2017, and it ordered legal action and further investigation in accordance with Section 190(2) of the Elections Act.
