Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has stated things that are making interior minister Rana Sanaullah question whether or not the ex-prime minister should be arrested.
"I do not support the arrest of Imran at this time. However, after hearing the statements he is making, I am compelled to believe that he should be detained "Sanaullah told reporters in London on Friday.
The interior minister, who Khan has accused of being complicit in his plot to assassinate the Wazirabad chief minister, remarked, "He should be arrested once so that we can watch the kind of storm he professes to want to unleash." The charges, however, have been unequivocally denied by the minister.
Sanaullah added that it was not problematic that PTI Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry was the subject of a first information report (FIR) that charges him with sedition.
"People who assert that there is evidence of victimisation ought to read the FIR. They will learn that it was registered with the election commission "Noted by Sanaullah.
The interior minister claimed that after Fawad Chaudhry spoke out against it, the election commission took action against him.
The early hours of Wednesday saw the arrest of Fawad, a former federal minister, after he had openly "threatened" the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) members and their families in a television interview the day before.
The PTI leader was subsequently transported to Islamabad, where the city's police were given a two-day detention warrant in the sedition case. The federal government was sharply criticised for his arrest, but it has denied any participation.
He was given a 14-day judicial remand today by an Islamabad court after that court rejected the police's request for a longer physical detention.
Senior lawmakers have condemned the sedition allegation brought against Fawad and requested that it be dropped right now, including Raza Rabbani, Farhatullah Babar, and Musadik Malik of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
Elections in Punjab
In his chat with media, the minister also mentioned that he had met with PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif multiple times and that he is currently travelling to Pakistan.
He stated that PML-N Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz would start the election campaign in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on February 1 in accordance with instructions from the party elder.
At a recent meeting in London, Nawaz gave Sanaullah political tasks and told the interior minister to organise party members in the province in preparation for the approaching elections.
Sanaullah and Maryam had plans to return to Pakistan together.
