Fawad Chaudhry, vice president of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, expressed optimism on Sunday that the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) will refrain from abusing its "subsidiary" Election Commission (ECP) to evade elections.

The leader of PTI expressed concern on Twitter that the PML-N might attempt to avoid the people's court with the aid of its "partner" ECP. They would adhere to the PML-N, he stressed.

The former Information claimed that in a democracy, it is the people who ultimately have the power to decide, and that the PDM administration should respect the rights of the people.

Imran declares dissolution of Punjab and KP assemblies

Imran Khan, the chairman of the PTI, declared on Saturday that the assemblies of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would be dissolved on December 23. (Friday).

The PTI leader made the statement while addressing the party's workers and supporters via video link from his home in Lahore's Zaman Park. He was joined by Chief Ministers of Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan.

Imran thanked both chief ministers for "sacrificing" their respective governments in his speech and declared that his party would immediately launch its election campaign.

"I have also spoken to my lawyers [...] it would be against the regulations to delay the polls past 90 days," he added, warning the government against using techniques to postpone the elections.

"The Pakistani Constitution mandates that the ECP always be prepared to hold elections in 90 days. I'm confident that it will make every effort not to," he stated.

In response, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira reaffirmed that the government's position is still in place, calling for elections for the dissolved legislatures and by-elections on the vacant seats.

The PML-N parliamentary party decided to use the "constitutional option," the minister added when discussing its strategy to fight the PTI's approach.

There is no need to wait until December 23 in order to dissolve the assemblies, according to Sanaullah, who advised Imran to do it immediately.

Leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Qamar Zaman Kaira, stated that no unconstitutional actions would be taken.

The special assistant to the prime minister questioned the assembly dissolution deadline of one week, saying it appeared they wanted to "save face."

When he loses the provincial assembly, Imran will realise his error, Kaira continued.

There were rumours that CM Elahi would not support the PTI chairman's choice before Imran announced the date, but the chief minister denied the rumours and swore to support "all of Imran Khan's decisions."
