Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), would reveal his upcoming course of action in a "important" speech tomorrow (Thursday), a senior party official said.
PTI Focal Person for Economy Hammad Azhar announced that the party would hold a "huge" demonstration outside Punjab Governor's House at 5pm to record its displeasure during a press conference in Lahore on Wednesday.
As a result of Governor Baligh-ur-Rehman, a member of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), calling today's session for a vote of confidence in Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi, the political climate in the province is heated.
Sibtain Khan, the speaker of the Punjab Assembly and a member of the PTI, disobeyed the orders and called the session to adjourn until Friday.
Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah responded by threatening that the government will declare Elahi to be the acting chief minister at 4 p.m. today. However, the proclamation has not yet been released.
The PTI has called for a protest outside the Governor's House and has decided to vehemently oppose any action put forth by the opposition, which is led by the Pakistan Democratic Movement.
Azhar called the opposition, notably Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari, "a circus has been put up across the country" and accused them of engaging in horse dealing.
MPs from PML-Q support CM Elahi
The votes of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q) are crucial in the event of a trust or no-trust vote, thus the opposition sought to win their support by appealing to Chaudhry Shujaat, the leader of the PML-Q.
However, according to a statement from the PML-Q, the party's parliamentarians have pledged their unwavering support for the current chief minister, Elahi.
Members handed CM Punjab full responsibility for all decisions at a meeting presided over by the CM and PML-parliamentary Q's leader Sajid Bhatti, according to a party statement. They also decided to stay unified under his leadership.
Members committed to vote in favour of the chief minister, speaker, and deputy speaker in the event that a motion of no confidence is brought before the provincial parliament.
In this context, PTI Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry spoke at the press conference with Azhar and noted that all PML-Q MPs have supported CM Elahi, the speaker, and the deputy speaker.
Chaudhry stated, "We have the data," pointing out that the combined membership of the PTI and PML-Q totals 187.
Sending a letter to the governor
President Arif Alvi has received a letter from Speaker PA Sibtain requesting the resignation of the current governor, according to Punjab Minister for Environment Protection and Parliamentary Affairs Muhammad Basharat Raja.
The former minister of law used Article 101(3), which gives the president the power to oust the governor.
Additionally, he called attention to the governor's illegal actions and asked the president to take action to stop him from doing so in the future.
