The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government is likely to offer the Pakistan Peoples Party the high-ranking position, sources told Geo News Tuesday as the session for the no-confidence motion against Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi approaches and the joint opposition considers strategies (PPP).
The change occurred because Chaudhry Shujaat, the president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), reportedly backed the PPP. The unified opposition has resolved to offer the PPP the seat as a result, the sources continued.
The sources further stated that Shujaat and Zardari's political interactions are becoming more frequent. The former president is also meeting with political figures to support his party's choice for chief minister.
They said that Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has been divided by the PPP, which has also given "key political people" of South Punjab the duty of doing so (PTI).
In an effort to frustrate the PTI's intention to dissolve the legislature, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the PPP tabled the no-confidence motion against the Punjab chief minister a day earlier.
Imran Khan, the leader of the PTI, declared last week that he would dissolve both the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa parliament on December 23.
Baligh-ur-Rehman, the governor of Punjab, then called the important provincial assembly meeting for December 21. (Wednesday).
Rana Sanaullah, the interior minister, threatened to close the Chief Minister's House in a press conference in Lahore if the Punjab Assembly session didn't start tomorrow.
The interior minister warned that "CM House will be sealed if Elahi does not take a vote of confidence or the assembly session does not take place" in a press conference in Lahore.
Fawad Chaudhry, a senior PTI leader, told reporters in the province capital that the party and its ally, the PML-Q, will fight the no-confidence motion with "full force." This suggests that the PTI is unfazed.
He further stated that, should the no-trust resolution against CM Elahi fail, the party would immediately begin the process of dissolving the assembly.
Punjab's "number game"
Sources told Geo News that the PML-leadership Q's speaks with CM Elahi's fellow members of the provincial parliament.
Six of the Punjab's ruling party's ten members have had contact accelerated in order to assist the province's combined opposition.
According to the sources, the leadership of the PML-Q is in contact with parties that the PML-N and the PPP are both affiliated with through a variety of channels.
In the Punjab Assembly, the unified opposition is supported by 180 votes. The number will rise to 186 once six of CM Elahi's colleagues members join the opposition.
