Imran Khan, the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), stated on Saturday that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will need to take a trust vote in what appears to be a tit-for-tat move.
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), whose votes are essential to retain the current prime minister in power, threatened to quit the coalition government in the centre before making the remark.
Prior to the January 15 local government elections, the MQM-P had threatened to resign from the federal government if its concerns about delimitations in Karachi and Hyderabad were not addressed.
Prior to the January 15 local government elections, the MQM-P had threatened to resign from the federal government if its concerns about delimitations in Karachi and Hyderabad were not addressed.
However, PM Shehbaz, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari, and Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman had promised the MQM-P that they would address their issues in an effort to retain them in the alliance.
In an interview with a private television channel, Khan stated: "PTI has passed the test" in reference to current political developments in the nation. Shehbaz Sharif will now undergo a thorough test.
"Our numbers had been completed," Khan added in reference to the recent vote of confidence given to Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi. Moonis Elahi put forth a lot of effort just before the PML-Q deadline to meet the necessary numbers.
While rejecting claims of horse dealing, the former cricketer turned politician claimed that the PDM was still committed to the "politics of Changa Manga."
The PTI chairman stated that "the country has changed and they don't realise it," adding that during the by-elections in July 2022, Punjab took a stand against the status quo for the first time in the nation's history. The country's politics were altered by the by-elections.
The PTI leader poked fun at the opposition by saying, "They felt the establishment was behind them and they would win."
Khan praised CM Elahi for standing with him in his political decisions for Punjab, saying: "The way Elahi is sticking with us, there was enormous gratitude in the party. He made a genuine sacrifice while serving as chief minister. We advise him to combine the parties.
